The Charmashilpa Scheme has been introduced by the Karnataka Government to revolutionize the production techniques of leather artisans. Through this initiative, financial support is provided to establish mechanized production units, which significantly enhances the quality and competitiveness of leather products made by artisan Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and cooperative societies.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Charmashilpa Scheme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a leather artisan, part of Artisans SHGs, or cooperative societies.
- Applicants should belong to specified sub-castes within the Scheduled Castes, including but not limited to Arundathiyar, Chamar, Madiga, and others.
- Minimum age of the applicant should be 18 years.
- Annual family income must not surpass ₹30,000 in rural areas and ₹25,000 in urban settings.
- Applicants or their family members should not have availed benefits from other governmental schemes, except for training programs.
- Family members of the applicant should not be employed in any government or semi-government organization.
Application Procedure
To apply for the Charmashilpa Scheme, follow the steps outlined below:
Online Registration Process
- Step 1: Visit the official Seva Sindhu Portal.
- Step 2: Click on “New Users Register Here” and provide your Aadhaar Number along with the Captcha code.
- Step 3: An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile; enter it to proceed.
- Step 4: After your DigiLocker account is created, click “Allow” to move forward.
- Step 5: Enter your email ID, mobile number, create a password, and fill in the captcha, then click “Submit”.
- Step 6: You will receive OTPs via email and SMS. Input both OTPs and click “Validate”.
- Step 7: A confirmation message will appear, indicating successful registration.
Applying for the Scheme
- Step 1: Access the Seva Sindhu Portal and choose “Department & Services”.
- Step 2: Select the “Social Welfare Department” and click on the “Charmashilpa Scheme”.
- Step 3: Click “Apply Online” and enter your registered email ID/mobile number along with the OTP.
- Step 4: Choose the scheme and fill in your personal, address, and banking information as requested.
- Step 5: Upon submission, you will receive an Application ID, which can be used to track the status of your application on the portal.
