Decentralized People’s Nursery

State 🎯 Student 🎯 Farmer 🎯 Worker 🎯 BPL

The scheme aims to increase tree cover and support rural incomes by enabling individuals and institutions to raise tree seedlings. It offers financial assistance per seedling, with beneficiaries retaining ownership of the plants, encouraging commercial nursery activity.

About This Scheme

The scheme “Decentralized People’s Nursery” by the Social Forestry wing of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest & Head of the Forest Force (HoFF), Government of Gujarat, aims to augment the income of farmers and increase tree cover by promoting afforestation activities. It allows individuals and institutions interested in raising seedlings to apply for assistance. The scheme typically involves a target of 20,000 seedlings to be raised by an applicant. A key feature is that ownership of the seedlings remains with the beneficiary, who is free to sell or use them without external permission. Financial compensation is provided in installments for the plants raised. The scheme is implemented by the Forest Department.

Benefits

Financial Assistance for Raising Seedlings: ₹2.20 per seedling is provided in three installments.

Ownership of Seedlings: The beneficiary retains full ownership of the seedlings raised and can sell or use them without requiring permission from anyone.

Income Generation: The scheme is recognized as a “very good income generating activity”.

Accessibility of Plants: Decentralized people’s nurseries ensure the availability of plants within a reasonable distance of villages for extensive tree plantations in both rural and urban areas.

Targeted Benefits for Scheduled Caste Community: Under the “Special Component Program (SCP)-Decentralised Peoples Nursery”, similar benefits are extended to beneficiaries and beneficiary groups belonging to the Scheduled Caste community.
