About This Scheme

The scheme “Funeral Assistance Scheme for Unorganized Workers (Except Construction Workers)”, launched by the Gujarat Rural Workers Welfare Board, Labour & Employment Department Government of Gujarat, aims to provide financial assistance to the heirs of deceased unorganized sector workers to help with funeral expenses and last rites, addressing the financial burden faced by families during such distressing times. The scheme provides a one-time financial assistance of ₹10,000/- to one heir of the deceased worker and is specifically designed for e-Shram card holders in the unorganized sector. The applicant must be an heir of an e-Shram card holder (except e-Nirman card holders and Scheduled Caste individuals) and must have an annual income within specified limits of ₹1,20,000/- for rural areas and ₹1,50,000/- for urban areas. The scheme is implemented by the Labour & Employment Department Government of Gujarat and applications for this scheme are accepted offline through designated government labour offices.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must be an heir of a deceased e-Shram card holder from the unorganized sector.

The applicant must be a resident of Gujarat.

The applicant must apply within 3 (three) months from the date of death of the deceased worker.

The deceased worker must have between 16 to 70 years of age at the time of death.

The applicant must have an annual income not exceeding ₹1,20,000/- (One Lakh Twenty Thousand Rupees), if residing in rural areas.

The applicant must have an annual income not exceeding ₹1,50,000/- (One Lakh Fifty Thousand Rupees), if residing in urban areas.

Only one heir per deceased worker is eligible to receive the assistance.

Priority Order for Heirs

The legal heirs of the deceased shall be considered in the following order of priority:

Husband or Wife.

Children (Son/Daughter) – in absence of spouse.

Parents – in absence of spouse and children.

Grandchildren (Grandson/Granddaughter) – in absence of spouse, children and parents.

Unmarried, widowed or abandoned sisters – in absence of spouse, children, parents and grandchildren.

Other heirs declared under Indian Succession Act, 1925 – in absence of all above categories.

Application Process

Apply Offline

Step 1: The applicant should obtain the prescribed application form as per “Annexure-1” from any of the designated government offices mentioned in the Steps below.

Step 2: In the application form, fill in all the mandatory fields, paste the passport-sized photograph (signed across, if required), and attach copies of all the mandatory documents (self-attest, if required).

Step 3: The applicant must submit the completed application form along with all required documents to any of the following offices:

Office of Assistant Government Labour Officer.

Office of Government Labour Officer.

Office of Assistant Labour Commissioner.

Office of Deputy Labour Commissioner.

Step 4: Request a receipt or acknowledgement from the concerned authority to whom the application has been submitted. Ensure that the receipt contains essential details such as the date and time of submission, and a unique identification number (if applicable).

*Applications must be submitted within 3 (three) months from the date of death of the unorganized worker. Applications submitted after this deadline will be automatically cancelled.

Post-Application Processes

Step 1: Upon receipt of the application, the concerned office will conduct necessary verification and approve/reject the application within 10 working days. If the application contains incomplete documents or information, the applicant will be notified accordingly.

Step 2: In case of incomplete documentation, the applicant must complete the requirements within 15 days from the date of notification. The concerned office will then process the completed application within 10 working days of receiving the additional documents.

Step 3: After successful verification and approval, the financial assistance of ₹10,000/- will be disbursed to the eligible heir’s bank account as provided in the application.
