About This Scheme
The Integrated Sheep Development Scheme (ISDS) was launched in the year 2020-21 by the J&K Government to promote income generation through the establishment of sheep & goat units. The scheme is implemented through Sheep Husbandry Department and monitored by the concerned Director.
The support shall be available for the following activities –
a) Establishment of Sheep/goat units under participatory mode comprising 10 ewes/does
b) Establishment of Sheep/goat units on subsidy mode (20-200 ewes/does)
c) Establishment of shearing units
The beneficiary can be an Individual / Group of Individuals / Self Help Groups / Cooperative Societies / FPOs, etc. Efforts will be made to cover 20% SC/ST and 10% women beneficiaries. The guidelines will be in force till 31st March 2023 or replaced by a new set of guidelines whichever is earlier.
This scheme is innovative & self-sustaining as fresh units shall be established in a continuous cyclic manner from the retrieved livestock of previous beneficiaries. The beneficiary must have basic infrastructure & grazing avenues available, to maintain the unit.
Around 1200 sheep/goat units are to be established with the creation of employment opportunities for around 2400 people. 200 elite crossbred imported merino sheep to be introduced for genetic upgradation of local sheep for the production of more than 8000 elite lambs which will lead to an increase in carcass yield from prevalent 18 kg to 21 kg besides incrementing fine wool production from the existing 2 Kg to 2.5 Kg per sheep.
