Key Conditions of the Scheme
To successfully participate in this fellowship, certain prerequisites must be met:
- A Scientist Mentor, who is a permanent faculty member, must supervise the research. This mentor should have a minimum of five years remaining before retirement.
- The Scientist Mentor is responsible for monitoring project progress, facilitating implementation, and ensuring timely financial reporting to KSCSTE.
- Applicants receiving financial assistance from other sources are ineligible for this fellowship and must confirm their non-eligibility in writing.
- The implementing institution is required to provide comprehensive infrastructure such as labs, computers, libraries, and other essential resources.
- Any unutilized grant amount, along with accrued interest, must be returned to KSCSTE in favor of the Member Secretary upon project completion.
- Researchers must acknowledge KSCSTE’s support in any published technical or scientific work stemming from the project.
- Collaboration with foreign entities requires prior approval from KSCSTE.
Benefits of the Fellowship
The KSCSTE Post-Doctoral Fellowship offers substantial financial support:
- A monthly stipend of ₹45,000/- along with a 10% House Rent Allowance (HRA).
- An annual contingency grant amounting to ₹75,000/-.
- The fellowship is available for a maximum duration of two years.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the KSCSTE Post-Doctoral Fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a permanent resident of Kerala.
- Should have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in their post-graduation.
- Must hold a Ph.D. in Science or Engineering.
- Should not be a permanent employee at the time of application.
- Age limit is set at 40 years (with a relaxation of 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates).
- Previous recipients of any Post-Doctoral Fellowship from KSCSTE or other institutions are ineligible to apply.
- Must have at least one published research paper in an SCI journal or a secured patent.
- Must select a research institution that is not the same as their Ph.D. research center, preferably within Kerala; however, premier national institutions outside the state are also acceptable.
- Fellowships are only tenable in government institutions or recognized R&D institutions and university departments.
Application Process
The application process for the KSCSTE Post-Doctoral Fellowship involves the following steps:
- Online Application: Eligible candidates should apply via the KSCSTE web portal at https://submit.kscste.kerala.gov.in.
- Application Scrutiny: A preliminary check will be conducted to verify basic eligibility and required documents.
- Peer Review: Eligible applications will undergo peer review by five subject experts (three from within the state and two from outside). Only those proposals receiving three reviews rated above 5 on a 10-point scale will be processed further.
- Presentation: Successful proposals will be invited to present before the Programme Advisory Committee (PAC). If approved, the funding decision will be communicated, and an agreement must be executed as per the scheme’s guidelines.

Application Process

Scrutiny of the Application:
Preliminary scrutiny of the application is carried out for verification of basic eligibility conditions and supporting documents.
Peer review:
All eligible applications are subjected to peer review by five subject experts (3 within &2 outside the state) in the relevant area of research. Proposals with at least three reviews graded greater than 5 (on 10 point scale) are only considered for further processing.
Presentation before Expert Committee:
Proposals that have passed the peer review requirements will be invited for presentation before the Programme Advisory Committee. One or two reviewers will serve as additional Subject Expert during the PAC meeting. On favorable recommendation by the PAC, the proposal will be considered for funding by KSCSTE. The applicants will be informed of the decision and will be asked to execute an Agreement as per the guidelines of the scheme.
