The scheme aims to improve child nutrition outcomes, with a specific focus on providing nutritional support to Severely Underweight (SUW) and Moderately Acute Malnourished (MAM) children aged between 6 months and 3 years.

About This Scheme

The “Nutrition for Severely Underweight and Moderately Acute Malnourished Children (6 months – 3 years)” scheme is a component under the “Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana (MSPY)” scheme, introduced by the Department of Women & Child Development, Government of Odisha. The scheme aims to improve child nutrition outcomes, with a specific focus on providing nutritional support to Severely Underweight (SUW) and Moderately Acute Malnourished (MAM) children aged between 6 months and 3 years.

Benefits

Monthly entitlements for SUW & MAM children in the 6 months to 3 years category for a period of 75 days will be as follows:

Date of delivery: Modified Chhatua & Besan Atta Premix will be provided to the beneficiaries at the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) on the 1st of every month.

Other services: Growth monitoring at AWCs, home visits of Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) counselling sessions will also be provided.

Duration of coverage: 75 days from the date of enrollment. After graduating to normal category, the child will continue to get Take Home Ration under the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) programme.

During this period (i.e.) from the day of enrolment, regular SNP entitlements will be discontinued.

Regular growth monitoring and medical examination of all SUW & MAM children will be undertaken monthly during the VHSND by Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and on the event of any medical complications child needs to be referred to the Community Health Centre (CHС).

If the child has not graduated to normal category or cured even after 75 days of enrolment, the child may be referred to the nearest CHC and based on the suggestion from the doctor, the child can be again enrolled under MSPY for one more cycle only.

Eligibility Criteria

The beneficiary must be a resident of Odisha.

The beneficiary must be a child aged between 6 months and 3 years.

The child must be identified as Severely Underweight (SUW) or Moderately Acute Malnourished (MAM) by the Anganwadi Worker or ICDS functionary.

Application Process

Step 1: The eligible Severely Underweight (SUW) and Moderately Acute Malnourished (MAM) Children are identified by Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) through regular growth monitoring under ICDS.

Step 2: The identified child is enrolled at the nearest Anganwadi Centre (AWC) within the ICDS project area.

Step 3: The AWW records the child’s details and nutritional category in the official register.

Step 4: Distribution of Nutrition Support:

The 75-day nutrition support begins immediately after enrolment.

Modified Chhatua and Besan Atta Premix are delivered monthly, while bananas and eggs are supplied weekly.

Step 5: AWWs conduct regular home visits, provide counselling, and monitor progress at the AWC.

Step 6: After the child attains normal nutritional status, they continue to receive Take Home Ration (THR) under the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP).
