The “Promotion of Energy Audit and Conservation of Energy (PEACE)” initiative, implemented by the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Department of the Tamil Nadu Government, seeks to enhance energy efficiency among enterprises. Among its various components, the “Detailed Energy Audit” is pivotal in pinpointing energy usage inefficiencies, assessing consumption levels, and proposing viable policy recommendations.

The “Detailed Energy Audit” specifically aims to:
- Identify primary energy sources currently in use

Methodology of Energy Audit
The energy audit involves a systematic approach, including:
- Conducting a thorough plant survey
- Engaging in discussions with plant personnel
- Analyzing historical performance data
- Measuring critical electrical parameters
- Assessing energy performance for significant electrical and thermal equipment
- Comparing findings with manufacturer design data and performance guarantees

Energy Audit Team
Engagement for the energy audit must be conducted by firms or companies that are empaneled by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. These teams should be led by accredited Energy Auditors recognized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
Final Energy Audit Report
The outcome of the audit will be a detailed report containing:
- Specific recommendations with quantitative and qualitative data
- Projections of energy and cost savings
- Estimated payback period for implemented measures
- An executive summary and audit duration
- Conclusions and suggested measures
Benefits of the Scheme
Enterprises can receive significant financial support, covering up to 75% of the audit costs, capped at ₹1,00,000 per energy audit.
- The subsidy will be disbursed to the MSME upon the completion of a certified Energy Audit Report.
- If a loan was secured for the energy audit, the subsidy will be credited to the bank to offset the loan account balance.
- The subsidy ceiling applies individually to the original and any subsequent energy audits rather than cumulatively.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this scheme, the following criteria must be met:
- All existing manufacturing MSMEs in Tamil Nadu conducting energy audits for the first time.
- MSMEs undertaking subsequent energy audits after a minimum gap of three years.
- Enterprises with multiple units can avail the concession separately for each facility.
Components Eligible for Subsidy
The only eligible expense for subsidy is the professional charges incurred for conducting the Energy Audit.
Application Process
To apply for the energy audit subsidy, follow these steps:
Step 1: Registration
- Visit the official portal of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Department, Tamil Nadu.
- Click on “Login / Registration” located in the top navigation bar.
- Fill out the registration form with your Name, Date of Birth, Aadhaar Number, Email ID, and Mobile Number.
- Create a password that includes at least 8 characters, one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one numeric digit.
- Complete the captcha and click “Register”.
Step 2: Login
- Navigate to the Login Page and click “Login”.
- Enter the credentials sent to your registered email and mobile number.
Step 3: Complete the Application Form
- Once logged in, hover over “Schemes” in the top menu and select the relevant scheme.
- Click on “Apply Online” and then “New Application”.
- Fill in all required fields in the application form, review the information, and agree to the terms before proceeding.
- Note the reference number shown and close the window.
Step 4: Document Upload
- Go back to “Schemes” and select “Upload Documents”.
- Enter your Application ID and click “Submit”.
- Upload all mandatory documents in the required format and check for accuracy.
Step 5: Application Submission
- Tick the checkboxes at the bottom of the screen and click “Submit Application”.
- A confirmation message regarding your application submission will be sent to your mobile device.
(Optional) Step 6: Track Application Status
Applicants can monitor their application status via the portal, which may also provide updates through email or SMS.

Eligibility Criteria
All existing manufacturing MSMEs in the state which are undertaking energy audits for the first time.
MSMEs taking up subsequent energy audits after 3 years.
Enterprises having more than one unit may also avail of this concession, separately for each unit.
There should be a gap of a minimum of three years between the previous energy audit and the subsequent energy audit i.e. present energy audit.
Compotients Eligible for Subsidy
The expenditure incurred towards professional charges of conducting an Energy Audit alone is eligible.
Benefits
75 % of the cost of the audit is subject to a maximum of ₹ 1,00,000 per energy audit.
*The subsidy will be released to the MSME after completion of the Energy Audit Report that is duly certified by the energy auditor.
*If the unit availed loan for the energy audit, the subsidy will be released to the bank to adjust in the loan account if the loan is in currency.
* The overall ceiling on subsidy should not be applied for the original energy audit and subsequent energy audit taken together but should be applied separately for the original energy audit and the subsequent energy audit.
Application Process
Apply OnlineStep 1: Registration
Visit the Official Website/Portal
of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. In the top ribbon, click "Login / Registration
".
In the registration form, fill in the mandatory details accurately, Name, Date of Birth, Aadhaar Number, Email ID, and Mobile Number. Create a new password. The password must contain a minimum of 8 characters, 1 Upper Case Letter, 1 Lower Case Letter, and 1 Numeric Field.
Fill in the captcha code, and click "Register".
Step 2: Login
Visit the Login Page
and click "Login", and then fill in the credentials received on your registered Email ID and the registered Mobile Number.
Step 3: Form Filling
After successfully logging in, hover over "Schemes" in the top ribbon, and then click on the concerned scheme from the dropdown.
On the next page, hover over "Apply Online" in the top ribbon, and then click on "New Application" from the dropdown.
Fill in all the mandatory fields of the Application Form
. Carefully review all the information provided, acknowledge and agree to the terms and conditions, declaration, and privacy policy, and then click "Proceed".
Note down the reference number appearing on the screen and then click "Close".
Step 4: Upload Documents
Now, hover over "Schemes" in the top ribbon, and then click "Upload Documents" from the dropdown.
On the next page, provide the Application ID and click "Submit".
On the next page, upload all the mandatory documents in the specified format and size.
After uploading the documents, click "View" to verify the documents uploaded for correctness.
Step 5: Submission
Fill in all the checkboxes appearing at the bottom of the screen and then click "Submit Application".
The message regarding the submission of the online application to GM/DIC / RJD will be received on your mobile phone.
