The Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme is an initiative by the Tamil Nadu government designed to provide financial support to students belonging to Backward Classes (BC) and Most Backward Classes (MBC). This scheme aims to facilitate the educational journey of students in English medium schools from 6th to 10th standard by covering tuition and examination fees.

Administered by the Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu, the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme aims to assist students from various socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including Denotified Communities (DNC). The objective is to promote education among these groups by alleviating the financial burden associated with schooling.

Key Benefits

• Tuition Fee for 6th to 8th Standard: ₹200/- annually (₹20/- per month for 10 months).
• Tuition Fee for 9th to 10th Standard: ₹250/- annually (₹25/- per month for 10 months).
• Examination Fee for 10th Standard: Complete coverage of the examination fee.

Eligibility Requirements

• The applicant must be a student currently enrolled in school.
• The applicant should be a resident of Tamil Nadu.
• Applicants must belong to the Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), or Denotified Communities (DNC).
• The family income of the applicant should not exceed ₹1,00,000/- (for BC students).
• No family member should have graduated (for BC students).
• The applicant should be studying in an English medium school at the 11th or 12th standard.

Application Procedure

Offline Application Steps

• Step 1: Obtain the application form from the relevant educational institution.
• Step 2: Complete the application form, ensuring that all mandatory fields are filled. Affix a passport-sized photograph, ensuring it is signed if required, and include copies of all necessary documents (self-attestation may be needed).
• Step 3: Submit the completed and signed application form along with the required documents to the educational institution.
• Step 4: Request a receipt or acknowledgment from the authority to whom the application was submitted. This receipt should include vital information such as the submission date and time, along with a unique identification number if available.
