The scheme aims to provide access to high quality education to students from Scheduled Caste communities in best private residential schools. It provides scholarships and bridge courses to meritorious Scheduled Caste students selected through national entrance test.

About This Scheme

The scheme “Scheme For Residential Education For Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA)” was launched by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India from 2023-24 to 2025-26. The scheme aims to provide access to high quality education to students from Scheduled Caste communities in the best private residential schools in the country, thereby securing their future opportunities and filling the gap in service deficient Scheduled Caste dominant areas in the education sector. Under the “SHRESHTA Schools (Best CBSE Private Residential Schools)” mode, the scheme provides scholarships covering school fees including tuition fees and hostel fees including mess charges, along with bridge courses to help students adapt to the new environment. The applicant must be a Scheduled Caste student with parental income not exceeding ₹2,50,000/- per year and must qualify through the National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA conducted by National Testing Agency.

Scholarship Coverage

School fee including tuition fee and hostel fee including mess charges as per following limits:

Class 9th: ₹1,00,000/- per student per annum.

Class 10th: ₹1,10,000/- per student per annum.

Class 11th: ₹1,25,000/- per student per annum.

Class 12th: ₹1,35,000/- per student per annum.

Bridge Course Support

Up to 10% of annual fee provided separately for bridge course extending up to 3 months.

Mode of Disbursement

Direct transfer to school accounts through e-Anudaan portal.

Within 30 days from date of confirmation of admission on Information Technology portal.

Additional Benefits

Automatic Progression: Students admitted in Class 9 or 11 shall automatically be funded for next classes till they complete 12th class.

Bridge Course: Conducted outside school hours covering academic topics and personality development.

Counsellor Support: Schools designate one teacher as counsellor to resolve difficulties faced by students.

Future Connectivity: Students may be connected to Post Matric Scholarship Scheme or Top-Class Education Scheme for further studies.

*The applicant must pass the exams of the previous class to continue receiving funding for subsequent years.

*The applicant must maintain enrollment in the assigned SHRESHTA school.

*If student leaves after admission and payment of fee, it must be brought to notice of Central Government immediately and fees paid should be refunded to Consolidated Fund of India.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant must belong to Scheduled Caste community.

The applicant must be studying in recognized schools – Private or Government or Local Body schools.

The income of the parents of the applicant must not exceed ₹2,50,000/- per year.

The applicant seeking admission in Class 9th must have passed Class 8th in the academic year immediately preceding the year of admission.

The applicant seeking admission in Class 11th must have passed Class 10th in the academic year immediately preceding the year of admission.

The applicant must qualify in National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA conducted by National Testing Agency.

Application Process

Step 1: Access the official

National Testing Agency portal

and register for National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA. Complete the registration process by providing personal details, educational qualifications, and uploading required documents including caste certificate and income certificate.

Step 2: Take the National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA conducted by National Testing Agency across the country. The test will assess merit for admission to SHRESHTA schools and results will determine eligibility for school selection process.

Step 3: After the examination, check the results on National Testing Agency portal to verify qualification status and merit position. Qualified candidates will be eligible to participate in the web counselling process for school selection.

Step 4: Access the web counselling system developed by National Informatics Centre to exercise choice of SHRESHTA schools. Select preferred schools from the available options based on merit rank and availability of seats in chosen institutions.

Step 5: Once a school is allotted through the counselling process, confirm the selection within the stipulated time frame. The selected school will automatically admit the student without any further test or evaluation process.

Step 6: Report to the assigned SHRESHTA school and complete all admission formalities as directed by the school authorities. The school will provide necessary assistance for students to settle down in the new environment and hostel facilities.

Step 7: Participate in the bridge course conducted by the school outside school hours if required. The bridge course will cover topics to help catch up with the rest of the class and enhance capability to adapt to the school environment.

Selection Process

The applicant will be selected based on merit obtained in National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA.

The applicant will be offered choices of SHRESHTA schools through web counselling system.

The applicant may participate in multiple rounds of web-counselling to ensure all seats are filled.
