Introduction

The “Scheme for Management and Purchase of Bulls Provided for Breeding of State Gir/Kankarej Breed” is an initiative by the Government of Gujarat aimed at enhancing the genetic quality of indigenous cattle. This scheme is designed to offer financial assistance to registered Gaushalas for the purpose of rearing high-quality male calves of the Gir and Kankrej breeds, ultimately promoting pure breeding practices.

About the Scheme

Launched by the Department of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare & Co-operation, Government of Gujarat, the scheme focuses on strengthening the breeding programs for Gir and Kankrej cows. By providing financial aid for the purchase and upkeep of superior bulls, the initiative seeks to improve the quality of calves and elevate milk production levels in rural regions through the development of native cattle breeds.

Benefits of the Scheme

• If the bull is supplied by the Board: ₹1,18,000/- in the first year.
• If the bull is acquired by the organization: ₹1,43,000/- in the first year.
• Maintenance support: ₹64,800/- for both the second and third years.

Note: Financial assistance is available for a duration of three years to each eligible organization.

Eligibility Criteria

• The applying Gram Panchayat or Gaushala must be duly registered under the Charity Act.
• It is mandatory for the Gram Panchayat or Gaushala to possess a minimum of 100 breedable cows.

Note: In instances where one village lacks sufficient breeding cows, the breeding cows from neighboring villages can be included, provided a guarantee is established.

Application Process

To apply for this scheme, follow the steps outlined below:

1. Visit the I-Khedut Portal at https://ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in/.
2. On the homepage, navigate to ‘Schemes’ and select ‘Animal Husbandry Schemes’.
3. Choose the relevant scheme and click the ‘Apply’ button, which will redirect you to the application page.
4. Click on the “Apply New” button to initiate a new application submission.
5. If amendments are required, use the “Update Application” button to make corrections.
6. After finalizing the application, confirm your submission.
7. Print the completed online application and submit it to the board within 30 days, ensuring the signature and stamp of the GGVB’s nodal officer from the respective district are included, along with the necessary documentation.
