The Goa Archaeological Research Fellowship Scheme
The scheme aims to encourage scholars to undertake research activities in the field of Archaeology of Goa and West Coast based on primary archaeological sources. It offers financial fellowship assistance of up to ₹40,000/- per month to eligible Post-Graduate or PhD scholars for 24 months.
About This Scheme
The scheme “The Goa Archaeological Research Fellowship Scheme” was launched by the Department of Archaeology, Government of Goa, to encourage scholars to undertake research activities in the field of Archaeology of Goa and West Coast. The scheme provides financial assistance through four research fellowships (two Junior level and two Senior level), each awarded for a period of 24 months, with an objective to encourage research based on primary archaeological sources, promote research culture, and promote interdisciplinary research in educational organizations.
Benefits
Eligible scholars under the Junior category shall be awarded a fellowship of ₹25,000/- per month for a period of 24 months.
Eligible scholars under the Senior category shall be awarded a fellowship of ₹40,000/- per month for a period of 24 months.
Maximum two fellowships shall be awarded under the Junior category.
Maximum two fellowships shall be awarded under the Senior category.
Other Non-Monetary Outcomes
Unexplored archaeological treasure will be brought to light which will help to carry out further research in the field of Archaeology of Goa.
A database of archaeological heritage of Goa will be created.
More and more researchers will come to visit the Protected Monuments of the Department of Archaeology for research activities.
Researchers will help in creating awareness about the Protected Monument and Sites of Goa and archaeological treasure of Goa in general.
The Department will generate research on the archaeological past of Goa for publication.
Conditions
A half yearly progress report shall be submitted by the research fellow.
The project report, in the form of two hard copies and a soft copy, must be submitted within a period of 30 days after the completion of her/his 24 months of fellowship.
The project submitted shall be exclusively the property of the Department of Archaeology, Government of Goa.
*The fellowship shall be awarded to any scholar only once in her/his lifetime under each of the two categories.
*A fellow will not be eligible for any other fellowship offered by the Department in any other category for a period of five years from the date of the submission of her/his project.
*Any grace period or extension will not be considered under the quantum of the fellowship financial assistance.
Eligibility Criteria
For Junior Research Fellowship
The applicant must have completed her/his post-graduation (M.A. in Ancient Indian History Culture and Archaeology/History/Indology).
The applicant must be up to 35 years of age as on the closing date of application.
The applicant, if applying as a Goan Scholar, must have 15 years of Residence in Goa.
The applicant, if applying as an Indian Scholar, must have Indian citizenship.
For Senior Research Fellowship
The applicant must have completed her/his Doctorate (in Ancient Indian History Culture and Archaeology/History/Indology).
The applicant must be up to 45 years of age as on the closing date of application.
The applicant, if applying as a Goan Scholar, must have 15 years of Residence in Goa.
The applicant, if applying as an Indian Scholar, must have Indian citizenship.
Application Process

Step 1: Invitation For Applications Is Released
The Department of Archaeology shall release a press advertisement inviting applications for the Junior and Senior Research Fellowship Scheme for scholars.
Applicants must monitor official channels and respond to this notification to begin the application process.
Step 2: Submission Of Application And Research Proposal
Scholars must submit their complete applications and detailed research proposals, adhering to the instructions provided in the press advertisement.
The research proposal is critical as it will be examined and scrutinized by the Monitoring/Reviewing Committee for selection.
Step 3: Selection Of Scholars By The Committee
The committee constituted by the Department of Archaeology shall select the scholars for the fellowship.
The Monitoring/Reviewing Committee will hold periodic meetings specifically to examine and scrutinize the research proposals to select the scholars.
Step 4: Final Decision And Award Of Fellowship
The decisions of the Committee regarding the selection of the scholars for the fellowship shall be final and binding.
The maximum number of fellowships awarded is two under the Junior category and two under the Senior category.
Post-Application Processes
Submission Of Progress Reports: The selected research fellow must regularly submit a half yearly progress report to the Department of Archaeology throughout the entire duration of the fellowship.
Submission Of The Final Project Report: The final project report must be submitted to the Department of Archaeology within a period of 30 days after the completion of the research fellowship’s 24 months. The required submission format consists of two hard copies and a soft copy. Note that the submitted project shall become exclusively the property of the Department of Archaeology, Government of Goa.
Grievance Redressal / Help & Support
Any grievance arising out of the implementation of this scheme shall be heard by the Minister of Archaeology who will decide on the matter. The decision made by the Minister for Archaeology in this regard shall be final and binding.
