Uttam Pashu Puraskar Yojana

The “Uttam Pashu Puraskar Yojana” is an initiative by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Himachal Pradesh, aimed at incentivizing livestock owners to raise high-quality, high-yielding animals. This scheme is designed to enhance the dairy production capacity of the state while encouraging better livestock management practices among farmers.

Overview of the Scheme

Launched with the objective of promoting the rearing of superior livestock, the “Uttam Pashu Puraskar Yojana” offers financial rewards to farmers who own cattle and buffaloes that produce significant amounts of milk. This program not only boosts the income of farmers but also contributes to the overall improvement of animal husbandry in Himachal Pradesh.

Implementation Strategy

The implementation of this scheme involves a systematic approach to ensure transparency and effectiveness:

  • Funds will be allocated to controlling officers based on predetermined physical targets set for each district.
  • Farmers whose cattle or buffaloes yield more than 15 liters of milk per day will be eligible for recognition.
  • Milk production will be recorded at veterinary hospitals or dispensaries within the Animal Husbandry Department.
  • Recording can take place at any point during the lactation period.
  • A maximum of two animals per farmer will be eligible for the prize.

The process for verifying milk production involves a committee comprising:

  • The local Veterinary Officer.
  • The Veterinary Pharmacist/GPVA from the relevant institution.
  • A representative from the local governing body, with verification from the Senior Veterinary Officer.

Milk production will be documented over four consecutive timings (morning and evening), and an average from three milkings will be calculated to determine the peak yield. The details of all qualifying animals will be compiled and submitted to the Deputy Director (AH/B) for the distribution of prize money.

Farmers with cattle or buffaloes producing 15 liters or more of milk daily will receive a cash reward of ₹1000 per animal, with payments directly credited to their bank accounts. Additionally, male calves born from these high-yielding animals may be acquired and nurtured at sperm stations.

Benefits of the Scheme

  • Livestock owners with cattle or buffaloes yielding 15 liters or more of milk daily will be eligible for a cash prize of ₹1000 per animal.

  • All prize money will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
