Launched to boost journalistic standards, the Goa State Journalist Awards Scheme offers awards and financial incentives to journalists based in Goa. Each award carries a cash prize of ₹10,000/- for various categories, encouraging professionals to produce high-quality content. The awards are presented annually on National Press Day, celebrated on November 16th. This initiative is overseen by the Director of Information & Publicity, Goa.

• Each award recipient receives a certificate, a memento, and a cash prize of ₹10,000/-.
• A total of seven awards are presented each year, amounting to a cumulative ₹70,000/-.
• Judges appointed for the selection process are compensated with an honorarium of ₹2,000/- each.
• Awards are distributed during the celebration of National Press Day on November 16th.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the awards, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Must be a journalist associated with a registered daily or weekly newspaper published in English, Konkani, or Marathi, or with private sector electronic media recognized by the Department of Information & Publicity, Government of Goa.
• The submitted work (news items, articles, or reports) should have been published within the previous calendar year.
• Nominations must be endorsed by the Editors of the eligible publications.
• Submissions can only be made for work published in the prior calendar year and must fall under one of the following categories:
  • Best Editor Award on National Integration and Communal Harmony
  • Rural Reporting
  • Reporting on Public Health and Hygiene
  • Reporting with a focus on Women and Children/Social issues
  • Sports Reporting
  • Reporting on Art and Culture
  • Photo Journalism (Best photograph of the year)

Application Process

The application process for the Goa State Journalist Awards Scheme is conducted offline and includes several steps:

1. Invitation for Nominations: The Department of Information & Publicity (DIP) calls for nominations from Editors of eligible publications.
2. Submission of Nominations: Editors must submit the details of the nominated journalists along with relevant press or video clippings to the Director of Information & Publicity by the specified deadline set by DIP.
3. Selection by Judges: A panel of judges appointed by the State Government reviews the submissions, ensuring evaluations are conducted objectively and based on credible sources.
4. Announcement of Awards: The awards are presented to the recipients on National Press Day (November 16th).
